Following Manchester United’s goalless stalemate against Liverpool, club legend Ryan Giggs has said that the United fans will have to make a habit of watching such games if they want glory days to be back at Old Trafford.
With Liverpool flying high with their front line in scintillating form, Mourinho had to come up with something unusual to get a positive result at Anfield. And the Portuguese tactician came up with his famous ‘park the bus’ tactics to nullify Liverpool’s free-flowing passing game.In fact, the Red Devils were seen defending with six men at the back on several occasions.
Mourinho’s tactics paid off as the hosts could not create any clear-cut chances in the first half. The Merseyside club came close to scoring on two occasions but were denied by the heroics of David de Gea.
The style of play is definitely new for the United fans but given the current form of their team, they will be happy to see their team walk away with a point from the tough fixture.
And Giggs has said that the United fans are not in a position to demand a particular style of play as the powerhouse of English football seek to become a strong force once again.
Giggs said: “It’s something we accept at the moment. If you lose tonight the pressure is on. Then you’ve got to win against Chelsea, got to win against Fenerbahce.
“It’s about getting back to the top. We had 35 per cent possession tonight. With Louis, it was 65 percent but we weren’t winning.”
Echoing Giggs’ sentiments, Liverpool legend and Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher said:” There’s no-one better in world football at nullifying a team.
“He’s going to do it his way. It’s not the United way but now it’s not about how they play, it’s about winning trophies.”
