The art of punditry is taking a new turn these days where any and every one, who is sitting in front of the camera can dish out criticism at the current team and players. One of such incidents surfaced in during Chelsea’s round of 16 clash against PSG when former Manchester United legends Roy Keane and Paul Scholes shared their views on Chelsea football club.

Roy Keane has dismissed Jose Mourinho’s claims of Chelsea being a great team and thinks that these claims are utter nonsense.

Before the PSG game, Jose Mourinho was speaking ITV and expressed his views on how Chelsea have become a great team.

Mourinho Said: ‘The hard work is to build a great team and we are a great team,’

‘We did the hard work, which is to build a great team, now is the unpredictability of football.’

Jose’s views were quickly squashed by former Manchester United captain who understands that Chelsea do have the potential of being a great team but they are not there yet. Keane went on to say that Jose’s claims are nonsense.

Keane Said: ‘I think they have the potential to be a great team. He’s clearly a great manager but they’ve got to back it up with some trophies.

‘To say they’re a great team at the moment is nonsense.’

Keane was not done there, he followed back on his initial statement after the game at Parc des Princes ended in a 1-1 draw. Keane thought that, Chelsea were not great defensively and they have a long way to go before being considered as a great team.

Manchester United favorites label Chelsea as “nonsense” 1

Roy Keane and Jose Mourinho do have a history. Keane snubbed Mourinho’s hand shake while he was at Aston Villa. Mourinho tried to shake Keane’s hands before the full time and he just refused the Portuguese stone faced as if he was not even there.

Roy Keane’s thought were well supported by former Man United player and legend Paul Scholes just like he partnered Keane in United’s mid field. Scholes claimed that to be a great side every team must win trophies consistently and the veteran used the facts and stats to prove his point.

Scholes highlighted the fact that Chelsea’s last major honour came in 2013 in a Europa League triumph. Since then they have not won a single trophy and yet their manager believes they are a great team.

Scholes said: ‘Over four or five years you have to win trophies every year,’ said Scholes. ‘It’s a bit early to say they’re a great team.’

Jose Mourinho will be even more desperate for success as his last trophy as the manager came in form of the Supercopa in 2012 with Real Madrid. Just like every argument there are two sides to the stories.

Yes Chelsea’s recent stats show their lack of triumph but their ever presence in the later stage of every tournament proves their dominance over the domestic and European leagues.

For those doubting Chelsea’s credentials, The Blues are almost running away with the Premier League title this season and are well placed to go through the late stage of Champions League. If Jose will be successful this season, Keane and Scholes will have to eat their words where they labelled Chelsea being a great team as nonsense.
