BREAKING – Manchester United in deep trouble as their Number one target says NO to the transfer
Manchester United were given a major blow to their pursuit of key transfer target when Mats Hummels declared he won’t be joining Manchester united in the summer.
Ever since Jurgen Klopp announced his decision to quit the club, Hummels was seen as an inevitability to sign for Manchester United in the summer but the German world cup winner has opted to stay put at Dortmund.
Borussia Dortmund are set to lose their manager and key players but Hummels deciding to stay with the club must come as a massive boost for the German club.
Earlier this month, Ilkay Gundogan declared that he won’t be signing his contract extension and will leave the club when the season ends. Hummels was though to join the exit list as well but various German reports are confident of Hummels staying with Dortmund next season.
This shocking revelation leaves Manchester United in deep trouble as Louis Van Gaal needs to re-assess his transfer targets and find an able defender to marshal his troops next season.
Manchester United have close to 6 central defenders at the club but none of them can be tagged as world class. This is where the problem lied for Van Gaal this season. He was unable to pick a strong back line in several games and paid the penalty by either drawing or losing.
In Hummels, United fans were seeing the prospect of a world class defender joining Old Trafford again. United have had the history of seeing defenders like Japp Stamm, Steve Bruce, Garry Pallister, Laurent Blanc, Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic grace United’s back-4 and Hummels was seen as the perfect man to carry forward that legacy.
Unfortunately after Hummels deciding to say NO to a move to Manchetser United, Van Gaal and Co. must look elsewhere to find a proper center half ahead of the next season.
Players like Nicolas Otamendi, Aymeri Laporte and Raphale Varane have been tipped as the other defensive option for Van Gaal after Hummels sensationally ruling himself out of a transfer to Manchester United.
