It seems the arrival of Paul Pogba, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan is not enough for Manchester United Jose Mourinho as according to reports he is keen to bring Portugal star Bernardo Silva to the Old Trafford. Catalan news outlet Sport has claimed that Jorge Mendes, Silva’s agent, has informed Barcelona that the Portuguese tactician is interested in the highly-rated player and is leading the race to secure his signings.
The midfielder was in brilliant form for Monaco last season and garnered a lot of attention. The Portugal international scored seven goals in Ligue One last term and has hit the ground running in the new season too. His impressive display in the Champions League tie against Tottenham Hotspur where he opened the scoring ,is bound to catch more eyes.
The playmaker was tipped to shine at Euro 2016 that his team went on to win only for the 22-year-old to suffer an unfortunate thigh injury in the penultimate match of the Ligue 1 season and was replaced by Renato Sanches.
The player was linked with Barcelona during the summer and according to reports Italian giants Juventus have already offered €22 million for the talented playmaker. United’s Premier League rivals Chelsea and Manchester City are also reportedly interested in Silva. But United can be considered the favourites to sign the midfielder because of his agent, Jorge Mendes’ relationship with Mourinho.
A product of the Benfica youth system, Silva played only three games for the Portuguese outfit before being snapped by Monaco first on loan and then on a €15.75 million.
With United players still looking to find their feet under Mourinho, Silva can be a quality addition to the midfield. Pogba is still struggling to justify his huge price tag while his midfield partner Marouane Fellaini is providing the physical presence in the field but has struggled to provide quality balls in the final third, a problem that can be solved by the arrival of the Portuguese star.
