Former French football star and Manchester United legend Eric Cantona has labeled Sepp Blatter and Michel Platini as ‘plague and cholera’ of football after the pair were likely to battle for the FIFA Presidential elections. Cantona believes that battles for power is ultimately hampering the game and feels it’s a shame to the beautiful game.

“It’s politics when you get to that level. Platini was a great player, he’s a great man of football, but today, he’s a politician just like the rest. On the other hand, it would be a good thing that, as they are all politicians, that a former player be elected head of FIFA. When you have to choose between the plague and cholera, it’s better to get it from a doctor.”

Blatter has been in charge of FIFA for the past 16 years while Platini is the current UEFA President. Cantona was quite vocal on the former Juventus legend claiming that he gifted the Euros to Ukraine which perhaps wasn’t an example of ‘democracy’.

“Blatter begins to say its true Qatar is a bad idea, but it was an idea of Platini. It was also Platini who gave the European Championship under-21 in Israel, which is also disrespectful to the level of human rights,” Cantona told Le Parisien. Qatar have never qualified for a World Cup and are currently ranked 97 in the FIFA World Rankings
