Manchester United Legend Savages Arsenal Star After Bayern Munich Defeat 1

Manchester United legend Roy Keane has absolutely savaged Arsenal after the Gunners were thrashed by Bayern Munich in the first-leg tie of last-16 stage.

Arsene Wenger’s men, who have been eliminated in the last-16 stage of the competition in each of the last six seasons, twice by Bayern, are in danger of exiting the continental tournament at the same stage again after being thrashed 5-1 by the Bundesliga champions.

The North London outfit managed to keep themselves in the game at the break but lost their way after their skipper Laurent Koscielny hobbled off with an injury, handing the armband over to Kieran Gibbs. The score was 1-1 when Gibbs replaced Koscielny but the Gunners failed to stop the Bayern attackers in the absence of the France international as goals from Robert Lewandowski, Thomas Muller and Thiago Alcantara condemned to a heavy defeat.

Keane, meanwhile, was not impressed with Gibbs donning the armband and said that it was an indication of the problems prevailing in the Arsenal team.

Criticizing Arsenal’s dismal performance before taking a dig at Gibbs, Keane told ITV Football:“I don’t know what you were expecting. There was a lack of leadership, character, hunger, desire. I have to say at this level and this stage they’re not good enough.

“There’s no point being too critical because they’re just not up to it. They have two decent players and the rest are average.

“You need to be organised at the back. When you’re 2 or 3-1 down, you need to take your medicine and stay in the game. When I see Gibbs with the armband on at the end of the game, you’re in big trouble.

“If he’s your captain, your leader, the guy who’s going to bring everyone together, you’re in huge trouble. Bayern weren’t at their best – they didn’t have to be – because the goals Arsenal gave away were schoolboy stuff,” he added.
