Manchester United’s Paul Pogba move has become the story of the month with Jose Mourinho desperate enough to not get frustrated with his failed attempts.
But with hardly any advancement in the talks in the last few days, it looks like the new manager at Old Trafford is keeping a list of players who can take the Frenchman’s place if the deal is not completed.
And it is no surprise to see the Red Devils linked with a move for one of the most in-form midfielders in the Premier League at the moment.
France Football, a French sports site ran a story recently on what Manchester United could do if they miss out on Pogba and revealed that his national teammate Dimitri Payet is considered as an alternative.
The West Ham United’s hero of the last season, Dimitri Payet, was also impressive in the EURO16 where he helped his team to the finals only to lose to Portugal in extra-time.
He has been in tremendous form since his move to the Premier League and was easily the best transfer of the last summer. His exploits at the Upton Park saw the manager and the club sign him on a new 5-year contract that sees his price increase to £75 million this summer.
The French midfielder is now earning £125,000 a week at the club and is said to be happy playing for the Hammers for another season but Jose Mourinho is desperate for a creative midfielder to add to his already star-studded United squad and has identified Payet as a possibility.
The 29-year old is in the best form of his life and is also wanted by Inter Milan and Real Madrid according to reports but it is now understood that Manchester United value him at €60 million (£50.2 million) and are ready to make a bid if the move for Pogba crashes down.
Though the player is happy at his club, playing alongside the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Wayne Rooney at one of the biggest clubs in Europe might be enough to lure Payet away from West Ham.
However, United will only make a move if Pogba’s deal is not completed and surely, West Ham fans will be hoping that Juventus will let the Frenchman out this summer.
Do you think Payet should move to Manchester United this summer?
