Manchester United are moving swiftly to tie up David De Gea’s long term future at Old Trafford. Extending De Gea’s contract has become United’s primary agenda in the January Transfer Window. De Gea has been strongly linked to Real Madrid by the Spanish Media in last few weeks.
It is being reported by Manchester Evening News that Man United are looking to sign De Gea on a longer term just to fend off Real Madrid’s interest in the young Goal Keeper. De Gea has been in superb form this season, at times winning games for Manchester United on his own.
David De Gea has 18 months left on his current contract and Mail Online understands that United will be forced to sell De Gea in the summer if he stalls in signing the contract extension now. De Gea has come out and praised United’s play in the past and he has admitted that he is very happy at Manchester and will sign the deal when presented.
Despite United needing to assure their defense, Louis Van Gaal and Ed Woodward would like to extend the 24 Year old Goal Keeper’s stay with Manchester United. Van Gaal has recently signed Victor Valdes on an 18-month contract, which has fuelled the news of De Gea exiting Old Trafford in the summer.
Van Gaal has confirmed that, signing Valdes is a reason of United not having a proper number 2 Goal Keeper in the squad. Van Gaal was not convinced by Andres Lindegaard and he might leave United in January.
For now, United look confident of securing De Gea’s signature over a longer deal but fans would be anxious to see how long it passes before De Gea will pen the new deal and would assure his long term stay at Manchester United.
