Manchester United player ratings from a decent 2022/23 season.

With a 2-1 win over Fulham, Manchester United wrapped up their 2022–23 Premier League season, with the three points securing them a third place finish.

Overall, Manchester United overcame a challenging start and a few forgettable games in the final nine months to finish in the top four, ahead of teams like Liverpool, Chelsea, and Tottenham Hotspur. This was Erik ten Hag’s first season in the English top division, and it was extremely encouraging.

But the season isn’t quite done yet, as Ten Hag noted at Old Trafford on Sunday. This weekend, United meet Manchester City in the FA Cup final, where they have a chance to win a second trophy under the former Ajax manager. With a 2-0 victory over Newcastle United at Wembley, Ten Hag guided United to victory in the Carabao Cup earlier this season, ending a six-year trophy drought.

How Manchester United players fared in the 2022/23 season

David de Gea- 7/10

The goalkeeper put in some outstanding performances and won the Premier League Golden Glove, but he also made too many costly mistakes.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka- 7/10

Played for only four minutes prior to the World Cup break, but finished the year as the right-back of choice. Wan-Bissaka had a number of standout performances in the second half of the campaign.

Diogo Dalot- 6/10

In contrast to Wan-Bissaka, the Portugal international’s performance significantly deteriorated during the midseason break.

Harry Maguire- 4/10

The center-back had yet another challenging season as he battled for consistent playing time. While Maguire put in several strong efforts during the season, there were far too many isolated mistakes.

Victor Lindelof- 6/10

The Swede was a solid and trustworthy backup at centre back when necessary. Barely put a foot wrong and massively stepped up in the absence of Raphael Varane.

Raphael Varane- 8/10

Brought a feeling of serenity to the group, and the former Real Madrid player made few mistakes on defence all season.

Lisandro Martinez- 9/10

He made an almost instant connection with the Manchester United supporters, and his enthusiasm frequently spread to his teammates.

Tyrell Malacia- 6/10

The Dutch youngster was intermittent, making consistency challenging. Malacia, though, has a history of performing well under pressure.

Luke Shaw- 8/10

Whether playing on the left or at centre back, one of the team’s most dependable and steady players. Luke Shaw once again proved his mettle when needed by his club.

Casemiro- 9/10

Throughout the season, the 31-year-old put in some amazing performances and motivated the club, but he was suspended and missed seven games. However, with Casemiro, red cards are a part of the package.

Scott McTominay- 6/10

Had some successful stints with the squad but was never able to hold down a position. McTominay put on some solid performances and occasionally had an effect coming off the bench.

Fred- 6/10

The campaign was unpredictable and full of ups and downs. In the team’s best moments, Fred had a significant effect, but in its worst, the midfielder was a burden.

Christian Eriksen- 7/10

Had a strong season debut and quickly became close to Casemiro. However, as the season went on, the Dane’s form decreased.

Marcel Sabitzer- 6/10

Showed glimpses of his brilliance, but the Bayern Munich player found it challenging to establish himself after being loaned out in the middle of the season. His finest performances came when playing at no. 10, a position Bruno Fernandes frequently fills.

Donny van de Beek- 3/10

The former Ajax player failed to impress when chosen despite just playing 10 games due to injury. Moreover, no relief despite his former manager Ten Hag taking over the reigns at Manchester United.

Bruno Fernandes- 8/10

Gives everything while playing and has once more achieved strong assist and goal totals. This season, Fernandes’ initiative and ingenuity have been crucial for United.

Antony- 5/10

Just as Casemiro justified his £70 million fee, Antony was nowhere near justifying the £82 million United splashed on him. However, showed growth during the season but still has to improve his goal and assist tally.

Facundo Pellistri- 6/10

Despite not having many chances, the winger showed some encouraging signs. Another star in the making alongside Alejandro Garnacho.

Anthony Elanga- 5/10

A disappointing campaign for the former member of the young squad, of whom Ten Hag is obviously not fond of. Only one game following the World Cup break saw Elanga take the field for United.

Jadon Sancho- 6/10

The attacking player became better during the course of the season and was at his best in the closing weeks of the league campaign. Ten Hag has had a game-changing impact on the winger which has fans believing they will finally get to see the Sancho of Dortmund who racked up goals and assists.

Alejandro Garnacho- 7/10

Many thrilling moments from the unpolished Argentinian talent. Garnacho competed for a position in the starting XI by the conclusion of the season after beginning it as a member of the youth squad.

Marcus Rashford- 9/10

Was in the midst of a genuine purple patch in the winter and early spring. The number of goals scored by Rashford (30) in a single season is a record high for the England international.

Anthony Martial- 5/10

Martial’s season was hampered by injuries, and despite a promising start, his performances declined once he rejoined the squad in April.

Wout Weghorst- 4/10

Despite making a lot of effort, the striker failed to score in 17 league games this season. While nothing stunning was expected from the Burnley striker, he still received praise for his workrate.

Cristiano Ronaldo- 3/10

Even though Ronaldo departed Manchester United in the middle of the season, it seems like years have passed since then. When chosen, the Portugal international had just a modest impact and aggressively held the squad back in the early going.
