Manchester United have taken a major step ahead in assuring their defence as they have decided to go ahead and splash £25 million on Lazio’s Stefan De Vrij in the summer transfer window.
United’s strong intent to sign De Vrij can be seen as Man United sent scouts to watch De Vrij play for Lazio over the weekend.
United’s chief scout Jim Lawlor was in attendance for Lazio’s game against Verona on Sunday and Lawlor’s focus was De Vroj and his performance on the night. Man United have been scouting De Vrij for last few weeks but with Lawlor present to see De Vrij could give this deal the needed go-ahead.
De Vrij has worked closely with Louis Van Gaal in senior Dutch setup and Van Gaal is keen to bring his trusted man De Vrij to Old Trafford next season. Manchester United have been in the market for dependable central defenders with likes of Mats Hummels, Nicolas Otamendi, Raphael Varane all being linked with a switch to Man United.
Despite all the big names linked with United, Stefan De Vrij tops that hit list for Van Gaal as he has previously worked with the player and trusts his abilities. De Vrij can play in the flat back-four system or in a 3-men defence.
De Vrij’s adaptability makes him the ideal defensive signing for Manchester United in the summer transfer window and as per the reports in Italian press, United are ready to splash £25 million for the services of Lazio’s Stefan De Vrij.
