Manchester United Refusing to Sell Anthony Martial this Summer – Reports
Manchester United are not willing to sell young winger Anthony Martial this summer, according to a report from ESPN.
Martial keen on Leaving United
The 22-year old have had a tough time under Jose Mourinho over the last couple of seasons. He mainly got used as a substitute despite his impressive showings for the club. It had ultimately cost his place in French national team for the FIFA World Cup 2018.
The arrival of Alexis Sanchez in January has narrowed down his playing time even more. Anthony Martial is currently behind Alexis Sanchez and Marcus Rashford in the pecking order at the club. But despite his intentions to leave Old Trafford, Manchester United are not keen to let him go.
He is currently into the final year of his four-year contract that he signed upon his arrival in 2015. But the club does have the option to extend his contract by another year. It would effectively keep the player at the club till 2020.
Since the arrival of Sanchez, the new contract offer talks were put on a halt, and the future of Martial remained uncertain over the past few months. Even his agent, Philippe Lamboley has revealed the Frenchman is ready to leave Old Trafford to revive his career earlier in June.
“After thinking about all the factors and possibilities, Anthony wants to leave Manchester United,” he told RMC Sport. “Everyone will have their opinion but I think he needs to resume his career. The time has come.”
Chelsea and Bayern are Interested
According to reports, Premier League rivals, Chelsea and European giants, Bayern Munich are interested in signing Anthony Martial this summer.
However, both the clubs are currently unwilling to meet the massive price tag (€100m) that is put on Martial.
Chelsea are currently looking for a replacement for Real Madrid bound Eden Hazard. On the other hand, Bayern Munich are in the market to sign new players.
The club currently has Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben on their wings, who are in the final year of their contracts. A move to Allianz Arena would be an upgrade for Anthony Martial, as he can play with a much superior team.
