Manchester United reveal a sum to let De Gea leave for Madrid
Premier League giants Manchester United have finally revealed a sum for which they would allow Spanish goalkeeper David De Gea to leave for Real Madrid this summer. Spanish media AS reports that the Red Devils have slashed their demands and now they are ready to let De Gea leave for €40 million.
David De Gea has been linked with a move to Real Madrid since the beginning of the transfer window. As soon as the 2014/15 season ended, it was reported in the media several times that the goalkeeper who has only a year left in his existing contract left with United is not willing to stay at the club. De Gea from the beginning was keen on signing for his home town club and European giants Real Madrid.
Manchester United initially were not keen on selling their star goalkeeper who had guided them to a top four finish in last season in the Premier League. The club initially had demanded a transfer fee somewehere around €47 million which was rejected by Real Madrid earlier.
Real Madrid understandably never wanted to pay such a huge amount for a player who has just a year left in his existing contract. At one point of time they had even lost hope over De Gea. Thus, they had bought Kiko Casilla from Espanyol to increase squad depth. Understanding the situation United now have reduced the asking price but it still remains doubtful as even €40 million is also a huge amount for a goalkeeper in the exisiting transfer market.
The club Louis van Gaal had bought Sergio Romero in this transfer window. While many thought that the Argentine would be a second fiddle to De Gea, Van Gaal thought otherwise. The Dutch dropped David De Gea from the 18 men squad in the season opener against Tottenham. Till now De Gea has not yet featured in any of the 5 matches Manchester United have played. Louis van Gall had cited reasons that the goalkeepr is not mentally ready and does not want to play for the club at present. This came as a shocker to many and it increased the furore regarding the transfer saga among the media.
It is now up to David De Gea’s agent Jorge Mendes to convince Manchester United to sell the player for a lesser asking price, so that both the parties can come to an agreement.
We can pretty much assume that David De Gea’s destination has been fixed this summer and it is none other than Madrid. But decisions have to be finalised fast as the transfer deadline day is fast approaching.
