Former Germany goalkeeper Bodo Illgner has claimed that Real Madrid need not sign Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea who has been a long term target for the Los Blancos.
The Spaniard was very close to joining Real Madrid last summer but only for a faxing machine to help Manchester United keep him at their possession post the transfer window.
He said, “I do not think we necessarily have to be hell-bent on signing De Gea. Of course, I cannot rule this out. Especially at Real Madrid, you have the claim to get the very best.
“De Gea is among the very best in his position. He shows it week after week in the English league and Europa League. He has also found his place in the Spanish national team. Nevertheless, I do not consider it necessary to invest a very large number of millions in a position that is already very well occupied.”
