Manchester United roundup: Depay interest, Mourinho’s sensational comments on Bailly and more

Red Devils have lost their way as they have now lost three games in a row.  The three losses mean that this is the first time Jose Mourinho has lost three games consecutively in 14 years when he last had three defeats at Porto in 2002.

However, the club has won their EFL cup tie against Northampton 3-1 away and were drawn against Manchester City in the next round. The Red Devils have also made an great performance against Premier League champions Leicester City as they won comprehensively with a 4-1 margin and are looking to keep their momentum going. Here we look all the stories around Manchester United today.

According to The Express, Italian giants AC Milan are interested in Manchester United winger Memphis Depay. The 25-year old have failed to seal his place in the United’s first team despite making his move to Old Trafford an year ago.

Former Arsenal striker Lukas Podolski has taken a dig at Jose Mourinho for his treatment of ex-German international Bastian Schweinsteiger.

The Galatasaray forward feels that it is not okay to drop a player like Bastian to reserves and should give chances for the German as he is a man who could make a difference.

‘When you look at the career Bastian has had, I can only say that what is happening there is simply not right for a player of his stature,’ Podolski told Bild.

‘I do not know what Mourinho has discussed with Bastian. But is clear that it is not okay to drop someone like Basti to the reserves.

‘A coach should always keep his door open to all players, and especially to players like Schweini.’

Manchester United defender Chris Smalling has backed Wayne Rooney to be back in the first team as he says he is their main man.

The 30-year old Rooney was dropped to bench by Jose Mourinho as Manchester United dominated with 4-1 win against Leicester City.

“He was the same, as in before the game when we’re all getting ready,” the defender said of Rooney. “He is often one of the most vocal and he was the same today.

“Regardless of whatever the situation is, whatever game, whether he is on the bench or playing or whatever, he is always that same type of character and that’s why he is England’s main man and our main man.

“I think he’s a very experienced guy and he’s played that many games that I think it’ll only be a matter of time before he’s back in there and firing again because he’s quality.”

Jose Mourinho had heaps of praise for new signing Eric Bailly who is looking to be the cornerstone for Manchester United defense this season. The 22-year old has started in all the games for United this season and has adapted to the Premier League with ease.

“I am always positive. We worked so much and so well that my expectations are always high.

“I always think that the team is going to play very well. Some guys adapt quickly. Eric Bailly comes from a different competition, a different dimension of club, an African player and he is not experienced at this level.

“He looks very comfortable at such a big club. Other guys it is different for them.”
