With the winter transfer window wide open, Jose Mourinho will be looking to bolster his side which has hit the top gear. The Reds Devils, after winning six games in a row in the Premier League, continued their recent revival with a convincing 4-0 win over Reading in the FA Cup third round.
With the season set to enter its business end, Mourinho will surely want to bring in some new players to keep his team’s hopes of qualifying for the Champions League on track. They are currently sixth in the league, 3 points behind fourth-placed Manchester City but the way they are playing right now, they will surely back themselves to enter the top four sooner than later. Some quality addition is only going to make their task easier. So here are the latest transfer rumours:
1.Eric Bailly wants Victor Lindelof at Old Trafford:
The Benfica centre-back has been heavily tipped to join the Red Devils this month and United ace Bailly has expressed his desire of playing alongside the highly-rated Sweden international.
Bailly, who is currently on national duty told Fotbollskanalen :“I hope to play with him. Hopefully, he will help us.”
“He is a very good player. He has great qualities and will certainly do well if he comes to us.”
With Marcos Rojo, Phil Jones and Bailly all in good form, the Ivory Coast international acknowledged the fact that Lindelof’s arrival will heat up the competition for the defenders’ spot in the playing eleven but said it will be good for the team.
“We have many good central defenders – Chris Smalling, Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones – but I hope I get to play with Lindelof,” he said.
“I don’t have a guaranteed place and I know I have to be good to play. We’re all fighting to play. I think we have done well. We have done our best. The day we get to play, if it comes, we must take advantage of that opportunity. I think we would fit well together.”
2. Ed Woodward in discussion with super agent Jorge Mendes to sign three new players:
As per the reports in Daily Star, executive vice-chairman of Manchester United, Ed Woodward is in talks with Jorge Mendes to secure the signing of three players- Victor Lindelof, Jose Fonte and James Rodriguez.
All the three players are heavily linked with the Old Trafford outfit and Mendes is all set to play a vital role in bringing them to the club.
3. Juventus Wants Matteo Darmian:
With Patrice Evra reportedly looking to quit Juventus, the Serie A giants, according to Goal, are planning to replace him with United full-back Matteo Darmian.
The former Torino star has been used as a back up by Jose Mourinho so far and with United linked with Evra, Darmian can play the role of a makeweight in the deal.
4. United set to face competition from Bayern Munich in their pursuit of Benfica defender Nelson Semedo:
Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich are reportedly ready to go head to head with United to secure the services of Benfica defender Nelson Semedo.
The Red Devils are linked with the defender for quite some time now and Portuguese news outlet O Jogo has reported that Bayern has also joined the race to sign the highly-rated centre-back.
