The third tie of FA Cup that was played between Manchester United and Sheffield United ended on a lucky note for the Red Devils. The home team scrapped off an underserved win after captain Rooney scored from the penalty.

The Blades defended commendably and put up a great fight against United. Manchester United failed to create chances and made unsuccessful passes. The players seemed lousy. The fans had been bored senseless for almost an hour before Memphis Depay flashed a shot past the post. It looked as if everyone out there in the stands has accepted the mediocrity the club has fallen down to. The manager look uninterested too.

In his post-match television interview Van Gaal questioned why all the talk was about how few chances United had created rather than how many opportunities the defence had let Sheffield United have. But it looked daft. United should be battering League One teams at home but they barely made their goalkeeper make a save. All in all, it was a good game for just Depay in the squad and totally an undeserved result for the home teams but the end was bittersweet for the fans. Bittersweet because the victory was a positive note from the game but the performance still stood poor.
