In the latest news coming from Manchester United camp today, it has been reported that the Old Trafford club have decided to sign the Danish International Simon Kjaer before they eventually sign Mats Hummels.
Kjaer, who plays for Lille in the French league has been in superb form this season which has seen him getting linked with a whole host of clubs like Juventus, PSG, Zenit and United’s rivals Liverpool.
Danish star has previously admitted to being a Liverpool fan but is open to the idea of joining any big club where he gets enough regular playing time. Louis Van Gaal is keen to bring the £11 million rated defender at Old Trafford to strengthen his defence as Kjaer has developed to become one of the finest defenders in European football.
Kjaer is valued at £11 million by Lille and if United do sign him for that fee, Kjaer would become the most expansive Danish player of all time beating Christian Eriksen’s move to Tottenham in 2013. Kjaer has recently spoken about his desires of leaving Lille for a bigger club.
Kjaer said: “I’ll only leave if a top club wants me, this season or next,”
“Otherwise there is no reason to leave a club of Lille’s means,”
“If I do leave, stability will be important. The clubs who want me will need to show that they intend to rely on me in the long term,”
“I have a status in Lille. The club believes in me and my family feels good here,”
“I realised that I needed a coach who has confidence in me and listens to what I say. It is important to have a coach who understands you,”
“That was not the case at Wolfsburg and that’s why I didn’t stay there.”
These statements are just the invite Manchester United needed to go ahead and sign the Danish defender before they complete the signing of Mats Hummels. A deal is expected to be completed before United’s pre-season tour to the United states.
