Carrick has been at Old Trafford since 2006

According to reports in The Sun, Jose Mourinho is all set to offer Michael Carrick a new Manchester United contract.

The 35-year old’s current contract with United expires after this season and Mourinho has informed the club chiefs about his desire of keeping the midfielder for one more year. The veteran midfielder has played an instrumental role in United’s remarkable turnaround in recent weeks and his presence has also helped Paul Pogba to flourish up front.

As quoted in the news outlet, a United insider said: “An announcement is expected shortly on Michael Carrick. He wants to stay at the club. Jose has been speaking to the money people and it looks like he has got his way. The deal hasn’t been put forward to Carrick yet.

“He is being offered similar terms to what he is on now. Jose cannot stop raving about him behind the scenes. Jose also feels vindicated as it was his decision to sanction his stay last summer. It has all worked out well in the end.”
