Red Devils come from a defeat against Stoke City whereas Swansea City drew their last fixture against Crystal Palace. Swansea is placed 17th on the table and the club is nearly on the edge of entering the relegation zone. Swansea will have to be bold against the mighty Manchester United as the team cannot afford losing the 3 beneficial points. Swansea have won their last three league meetings with Manchester United – all by a scoreline of 2-1.The Swans also won 2-1 at Old Trafford last season in Louis van Gaal’s first game in charge. Manchester United’s last two Premier League defeats from winning positions have both come against Swansea City (last February and last August when they lost 2-1 both times).
Team News
Jesse Lingard of Manchester United has been reported with a hamstring injury which keeps him out for 3 weeks. Luke Shaw, Antonio Valencia and Marcos Rojo show no signs of a possible return for this game.
For the Swans, Federico Fernandez is still battling the bruised heel which saw him miss the draw at Crystal Palace.Angel Rangel, Leon Britton, Ki Sung-yueng, Wayne Routledge, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Andre Ayew could all return.
Expected line ups
Manchester United- De Gea, Darmian, Smalling, Blind, Young, Schneiderlin, Schweinsteiger, Mata, Herrera, Martial, Rooney.
Swansea City- Fabianski, Naughton, Williams, Grimes, Taylor, Britton, Ki, Shelvey, Sigurdsson, Routledge, Ayew.
Key Battles
Ayew v/s Smalling
Ayew has scored only 6 goals in 18 games but is a deadly striker. Ayew’s tackling and aerial duels are his strengths. However his crossing is weak and Smalling could very well take advantage of this. Smalling has been United’s one of the most consistent player this season. Smalling is top notch with his crossing and passes neatly. It will be a great fight between the two players on the pitch.
Rooney v/s Britton
Rooney hasn’t been as powerful this year as he has been in the last few seasons. The captain has failed to net enough goals this year and seems to be in an average form lately. However he had a good game against Chelsea and will be expected to continue the same against the Swans. Britton blocks the ball brilliantly and could be a problem for Rooney. Britton’s ball interception too will pester the United captain.
