Manchester United winger Mason Greenwood is considering leaving the club to restart his career which was enroute to get doomed after criminal proceedings were opened against him in January 2022 for attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour and assault occasioning actual bodily harm to a woman. However, to the 21-year-old’s relief, all charges have ben dropped now after the Crown Prosecution Service said there was “no longer a realistic prospect of conviction” after key witnesses withdrew from cooperating with the investigation.

But that has not put an end to all his problems as Mason Greenwood now faces an internal investigation from Manchester United, led by their CEO Richard Arnold. It is being understood that the club will only decide the next steps after the investigation is over. Mason Greenwood prioritising a move to China after being unhappy with United

Mason Greenwood has been with Manchester United since the age of seven, and made it big by breaking into the first team under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. However, since the criminal cases it has been downhill for the forward who now feels that the club didn’t stand with him through the tough times. Greenwood is apparently unhappy and disappointed with United, who had distanced themselves from him until the criminal proceedings were going on.

The Sun is now reporting that Greenwood is unhappy with the Red Devils’ stance and is thinking about leaving the club. The report further adds that the striker has informed his buddies in fury last year that he would never again put on the club’s shirt ever again. United are still unclear whether they are ready to take Greenwood back due to the allegations of sexual harassment against him.

Moreover, the club also fears that it there’s a serious possibility that their ties with their 25 global sponsors would deteriorate if Mason Greenwood is reinduced in the team. One of their major sponsors, Ecolab have even stated that they are monitoring the situation of the player and would act accordingly. The club also feels this fiasco has already blown a dent to their ‘United brand’ and cannot sustain further damage.

As a result, Mason Greenwood too is thinking of leaving the club as he feels the relationship is now irreparable. Furthermore, the striker is considering leaving the country itself, with his preferred option being a move to China. It is being understood that Greenwood also fears he will be targeted to abuse by the English fans, who even mocked and booed their own English players after they lost the EURO 2020 final against Italy.

Greenwood wants to avoid any hostile behaviour towards him and thus eyes moving out of England. He also knows that it would be difficult to stay in Europe as well, since no team will want themselves to be associated with him. Overseas is the only option, with even MLS out of the equation. China remains the only possibility, with interest from middle-east, where Cristiano Ronaldo recently moved being speculated as well. The striker has so far played 129 times for the Red Devils, netting 35 goals and providing 12 assists in that time.
