Massive: Arsenal may lose star attacker if Wenger doesn’t act quickly

Napoli have been urged to make a move for Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud.

The Italian giants are still searching for a new hitman after Gonzalo Higuain completed a sensational £76m move to Juventus last week.

And Salvatore Aronica, who made 100 appearances for Napoli between 2008 and 2013, has suggested Giroud would be an ideal replacement for the Argentine.

He believes the Frenchman is in a different league to their current attacking options.

“If Napoli wants to reduce the gap with Juventus they should aim for a top player,” Aronica told Tutomercatoweb.

“Without detracting from the young Milik and Gabbiadini, they need a major impact to reinforce the attack.

“A great choice could be Giroud, a player who has much international experience and that would raise the bar.”

Giroud joined Arsenal from Montpellier in a £13m deal four years ago.

He netted 16 top flight goals for the north Londoners last season before going on to represent his country on home soil at Euro 2016.

However, last month the French attacker’s agent Michael Manuello insisted his client is unlikely to leave Arsenal this summer.

Gunners’ boss Arsene Wenger failed to sign Jamie Vardy from Leicester City during pre-season and Manuello believes any incoming striker would be a replacement for the injured Danny Welbeck, not for Giroud.

Giroud has been in fine form for France at Euro 2016, scoring three goals in four appearances for Didier Deschamps’ side’s run to the semi-finals.

Meanwhile, Arsenal have been heavily linked with a move for a striker this summer but any new arrival at the Emirates might not relegate Giroud’s from Arsene Wenger’s starting line-up.

Wenger could have a solution already in his squad with Alexis Sanchez a potential strike partner for the Frenchman.
