Chelsea has rewarded their defensive holding play-maker Nemanja Matic a new contract which is worth £90,000-a-week. The contract is expected to be officially announced in few days.
Matic has been the key member in Jose Mourinho’s as he provided the balance to the team over the course of the season. The Serbian International also won praises on numerous occasions from Mourinho for his amazing performances.
Ever since he joined Chelsea in 2014 winter transfer window from Benfica, he is nothing less than a revelation with him being the key player in shielding the defense and providing important box-to-box play.
The 26-year old currently serves a three-match ban for his clash with Burnley’s Ashley Barnes recently. Mourinho was furious when asked about the ban and said: “If I give you my views, it’s bad for me. I can’t give you my views because it’s bad for me. If I speak again about the Matic situation, I promise I will be in big trouble. I can’t talk (about Ashley Barnes).”
The new deal means that the midfielder will stay at Stamford Bridge till 2020.It also means that there will be a £30,000-a-week increase in his wages which would cost the club £4.8 million.
The Blues have already extended the contract of Eden Hazard and are also expected to give a new contract to John Terry in the coming days.
