Juventus and AFC Ajax have agreed a transfer worth €75 million for centre back Matthijs De Ligt.

The 19 year old defender has moved to Turin, signing a 5 year contract at the club. A top defensive prospect across Europe. De Ligt was being chased by top European clubs including F.C Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Manchester United, PSG and the list continues.

However, he chose to sign for Juventus. De Ligt had his medical in Turin on Wednesday and has signed a contract with the club today. He is set to earn €12 million per season.

De Ligt’s agent Mino Raiola told the press “Barcelona? You all wrote so much bullsh*t!”.

“It’s not a question of who wanted him most, but Juve are the best team for him. For a defender it is important to come to Italy. If you are to become the greatest in the world, it is a necessary stage.

“He’s the number one among the youngsters. He’s like [Pavel] Nedved, maybe more than him, for his mentality and he’s like Zlatan [Ibrahimovic] for his ambition. He has it all.”

De Ligt won the domestic double with Ajax last season. He also captained his side to the semifinals of the Champions League last season, knocking out Real Madrid and Juventus from the tournament. He set his reputation very well across Europe.

At 19, he has already been capped for the Netherlands national football team for 17 times, and is a regular. He is tall, agile and fast, and also possesses exceptional heading ability.

Juve have made 7 signings this summer, in their quest to winning the Champions League. The old lady’s trio of BBC containing Andrea Barazagli, Leonardo Bonnuci and Giorgio Chelinni, broke away this season with Barazagli’s retirement. De ligt would join the other two to maintain the wall of the Old Lady, feared by the whole of Europe.
