Michael Owen Predicts Everton vs Liverpool, Names The Player Who Will Change The Match

Michael Owen has told Bet Victor that he expects Liverpool to beat Everton in what he claims will be a “Merseyside derby to savour” at Goodison Park on Monday.

Liverpool might travel across Stanley Park in the knowledge that a defeat would leave them nine points behind Premier League leaders Chelsea, who visit Crystal Palace over 48 hours before the derby at Goodison.

Jurgen Klopp’s side had been in quite patchy form prior to their 3-0 win at Middlesbrough on Wednesday night, with the Reds only picking up four points from the past 12 on offer prior to that.

Everton are hardly ripping up the Premier League either but a 2-1 win at home to Arsenal on Tuesday night was their second win in 11 matches and Ronald Koeman will hope that it proves something of a watershed moment for the Toffees.

They have got some confidence back just in time for the clash against their Merseyside rivals. The atmosphere will be as combustible as ever and the action will be high-octane. We’re going to find out if Everton can peg back their old foes.

That being said, the former Liverpool man cannot see past his old club.

“Everton suddenly sprung to live after a dismal first half-hour against Arsenal earlier in the week, but I just feel Liverpool will take the points in, what promises to be, a Merseyside derby to savour,” he told Bet Victor.

“We highlighted the burgeoning talents of Divock Origi earlier in the week and I just wonder if the Belgium national manager, and former Blues boss, Roberto Martinez will be in attendance to see his young strikers Origi and Romelu Lukaku go head-to-head at Goodison.”

With the way Chelsea are playing, dropped points is not an option for Liverpool. They will, in all probability, find themselves nine points off the pace by the time both sides kick off on Monday night, and only a win will do.

While the Toffees surprised everyone with their intensity against Arsenal they won’t be able to keep that sort of tempo up every week. Arsenal also carved Everton open a few times, and if the Gunners can do it, so can Liverpool who are unbeaten against their rivals since 2010.

These games are always played at a crazy pace, and that will only suit Klopp’s Liverpool, who are happiest when the ball breaks in the centre of the park.
