Ultimately, Mohun Bagan Club is set to sue against its sponsor McDowells.
The key allegation against the sponsor, the club officials have raised is that McDowells has stopped giving its sponsorship amount for last four months. And as a part of its reflection, Mohun Bagan’s senior football team has not been able to start training.
Even, the club officials are still unable to confirm the signing of their most valuable foreigner Haitian winger Sony Norde due to lack of funds.
Norde, who has been now busy in participating in the ongoing ISL with Mumbai City, has promised Mohun Bagan club officials to renew his contract for the coming season only if he is handed over an worthy amount of advance money from his demand.
Mohun Bagan secretary Anjan Mitra admitted last week that they are still not being able to fulfill Norde’s financial demand.
On Monday, the club secretary revealed, “The sponsor has been giving sponsorship money for last four months. We will move to the court, trying to establish that the sponsor has been liquidated.”
The logo of McDowells has also been removed from Mohun Bagan senior team’s jersey just before the start of the Kolkata Premier football this season.
Incidentally, East Bengal club’s top officials have stood by Mohun Bagan. Club’s senior executive Debabrata Sarkar commented on the issue, “This is not good time for football in Bengal. We also might be affected in a similar manner in future. I think time has come for all of us to get united and try to make solution of this financial crisis.”
