Mourinho Holds Meeting With Manchester United Board, Urges Clearance For This January Deal

Jose Mourinho wants Manchester United to make a new signing before the January transfer window closes and ideally wants to land Tiemoue Bakayoko from Monaco, according to reports.

The Sunday Times claims that the United manager is concerned that the club have allowed Memphis Depay and Morgan Schneiderlin to leave this month but have not brought in replacements. He reportedly had an emergency meeting with the board members on Monday and urged the club to give him full clearance to sign the Monaco star.

Mourinho is keen to sign Bakayoko along with Benfica’s central defender Victor Lindelof, but executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward feels the two players can be signed for a lower fee at the end of the season.

Bakayoko, who has also been heavily linked with Chelsea, has a contract with Monaco until the summer of 2019.Image result for bakayoko

The report claims that United have been in talks with the Ligue 1 leaders about a deal for the 22-year-old but a fee has not been agreed.

“I won’t leave Monaco this winter, that’s for sure. I don’t want to leave. Monaco are a beautiful club,’ Bakayoko said at the end of December.

“Certainly the Premier League makes you dream but I have no reason to leave this winter. Today, I have two goals: to finish as a champion in France and to go as far as possible in the Champions League.”

Bakayoko’s best position is sitting just in front of the defence where he can easily break up attacks and get counter-attacks started. His defensive work is impressive and his tackling ability really makes him stand out.

Clearly, Tiemoue was born for that defensive midfield role, and given how Carrick is ageing and how inconsistent Bastian is, we could do with a dependable central midfielder.

As it is with most young players, he is not level headed and lacks the physique that the English Premier League demands. However, the talent in him is undeniable and that’s what really matters.
