Must Watch: Ozil’s goal from a brilliant volley against Swansea stunned even Wenger
Oct 16, 2016 at 11:20 AM
There are worse ways to celebrate your birthday than with a first-time volley into the back of the net.
Mesut Ozil’s form was always going to have a big say in Arsenal’s contest with Swansea at the Emirates, and the playmaker didn’t disappoint with a superb strike to put the Gunners 3-1 up.
A Theo Walcott brace had put Arsene Wenger’s side 2-0 up before Gylfi Sigurdsson’s reply, but Ozil’s goal helped them back into full control.
Borja González later added a second for Swansea, but this was definitely the highlight of the afternoon.
The assist king turned goalscorer with a brilliant volley, reminiscent of Robin Van Persie’s classic at the Valley against Charlton, albeit from a little further forward.

As always, Arsenal fans took to Twitter to sing his praises, delighted with the birthday boy’s performance.
There was also plenty of hype surrounding Alexis Sanchez, and rightly so as he did superbly to create the chance out of virtually nowhere.
Mesut Ozil’s goal good enough to get a second “ooh” when shown on the big screen. Should just about settle it. Arsenal in 2nd gear, really.

What a goal! Mesut Özil thumps home!
In celebration, he bows and points to Alexis Sánchez, his partner in crime. Lovely assist from him.

The Chilean’s lovely pass right across the box found Ozil perfectly, making that the 17th league goal this calendar year that he’s been involved in.
Elsewhere, though, Arsenal found one player notching up a rather unwanted record of his own – Granit Xhaka’s red card was his eighth in the last two and a half years, which takes some doing.
The Swiss’ dismissal left Arsenal hanging on for a 3-2 win which has lifted them above rivals Tottenham into second in the table, Spurs drawing 1-1 away to West Brom.
