Manchester United on-loan winger Nani has admitted that he does not intend to stay for another season with Sporting Lisbon. Hence, the Portuguese added that he is looking for a fresh challenge.
Nani began his career with Sporting Lisbon, before moving to Manchester United in 2007. After spending seven seasons with the club, he re-joined his first club for a year as part of the deal that took Marcos Rojo to United last August.
The Portugal international has proved a hit with the Sporting supporters after scoring 10 goals in 32 games in his second spell at Sporting. Despite it, the winger said he is looking for a different challenge next season.
“The fans asked me to stay but we all know it’s hard,” he told A Bola. “I have a contract with Manchester United and my ambitions are different this time.”
“I am very happy to have spent a year at Sporting. It was a great time, helping Sporting where I could and finish in the top three. The rest we’ll see.”
The 28-year-old, who is under contract at Old Trafford until 2017, is waiting to hear if he will be part of United manager Louis van Gaal’s plans. But, the prospect of Nani returning to United looks all the more slimmer especially after the latest capture of Memphis Depay from PSV.
Hence, the winger may have to move away for fresh challenge. Nani, who joined in 2007, made his 228th and his last United appearance as a substitute against Swansea last August in Van Gaal’s first competitive game in charge. He has also played only 11 league games in each of his last two full campaigns at the club.
