England boss will be announced today!

Sam Allardyce will succeed Roy Hodgson as the new England manager within next 24 hours.

The FA on Wednesday afternoon  informed Sunderland that Allardyce will be appointed as the Three Lions’ 15th manager.

The 61-year-old took charge for the final time in the 3-0 pre-season friendly win at Hartlepool later in the day.

However, the Black Cats have so far denied a deal for Allardyce had been struck, but they have already held talks with David Moyes about taking charge at the Stadium of Light.

“Naturally, we are aware of the intense media speculation this evening, however, at the present time Sam Allardyce remains Sunderland manager,” read a club statement.

“We share in the anger and frustration of our supporters and would like to assure them that we are working to conclude the matter in the best interests of Sunderland AFC.”

It is believed that Allardyce will be recommended to the FA Board at a meeting on Thursday by the three-man panel of chief executive Martin Glenn, technical director Dan Ashworth, and vice-chairman David Gill.

The appointment happens to be a dream-come-true for Allardyce whose former clubs include West Ham, Blackburn, and Bolton.

It also comes with firm support from his good friend Sir Alex Ferguson, who worked with Gill at Manchester United.

Allardyce is said to be paid £2.5million a year, but a contract with heavy incentives gives him the opportunity to earn more than Hodgson’s £3.5m salary.

He was previously interviewed for the England job in 2006 when Sven Goran Eriksson left after the World Cup, but Steve McClaren was appointed instead.

Hull’s Steve Bruce, Eddie Howe of Bournemouth and German Jurgen Klinsmann were all considered this time, but it is the former Bolton defender who takes over from Hodgson.

Hodgson quit on June 27 after four years in the job following England’s embarrassing Euro 2016 exit at the hands of Iceland.

FA chief executive Martin Glenn declared earlier this week that they were not looking for a “short-term mercenary” for the role of England manager.

Glenn, vice-chairman David Gill and technical director Dan Ashworth have been tasked with finding Hodgson’s replacement.
