In what comes as a shocking development in recent times, Premier League strugglers Newcastle United are eyeing a shock transfer of Wolfsburg forward Nicklas Bendtner this January.
It is reported that Bendtner who left Arsenal in 2014 for the German club Wolfsburg is set to return to the Premier League after an impactless stint in Germany.
The forward has scored just 9 goals over the two years at the club and has not been able to live up to the expectations. It is understood that the German franchise are ready to offload the 27 year old flop before the end of this transfer window.
And German newspaper Bild has reported that English franchise Newcastle United are front runners to acquire the signature of the ex-Arsenal forward.
Though talks between the two sides are yet to begin, it is reported that the player is close to a loan move or a permanent transfer this January.
Steve McClaren cannot be a happy man with the lack of goals up front and also the injury to Cisse. With Bendtner understood to jump on a chance to return to the Premier League, Newcastle are all set to acquire his signature.
Bendtner is also linked with FC Copenhagen a club which he left to join Arsenal in 2005. The Denmark international has made just over 100 league appearances for the Gunners and was out on loan at Birmingham, Sunderland and Juventus before finally moving on a permanent basis to Germany.
If they can pull it out, this transfer might just be what is needed for the Magpies to start their revival towards safety in this season’s Barclays Premier League.
