Chelsea defender Fikayo Tomori has signed a new four-year deal with the Blues on their preseason tour of US.
The 18-year-old made his Chelsea debut on the last day of last season and since then training with the first-team ahead of the upcoming campaign.
Tomori scored in the finals of both the FA Youth Cup and UEFA Youth League last year and is highly regarded at Stamford Bridge.
“It’s good for me, a confidence booster knowing I did well last year and being rewarded with a new contract. Now I’ve got to improve and show my worth,” the Chelsea youngster told Chelsea’s official website.
“It’s been good to spend the pre-season with the first team, to learn from the older players and know what it’s like to be on a tour and see how they are preparing for the season.”
Tomori also explained what it is like to experience pre-season with new manager Antonio Conte.
He added: “We wake up and go to breakfast at around 8.30 before we head off to training which here in Minnesota is about 25 minutes away, we train hard, go back to the hotel for lunch, have a bit of downtime and then there’s often a team meeting after we’ve had a rest.
“Then it’s off to training again before dinner and a rest. It’s chilled out for us but when we train then it’s obviously very serious and hard work, which is good.
“The manager wants us to work hard and get into shape quickly so it’s taxing on the body and we all have certain things we have to do that will help us.
“There is lots of tactical work too, knowing where you should be at certain times, with and without the ball.
“We have to adapt to the time difference too. Training is hard work, so we have to rest, we sleep a lot, think about training sessions and speak about what’s going to come.”
Chelsea starts the new Premier League campaign against West Ham on Monday, August 15.
