In an unfortunate news, Pakistani woman footballer, Shahlyla Ahmadzai Baloch died in a car crash in Karachi on Wednesday. As reported in The Dawn, the footballer’s sister Raheela said that the accident happened when the car struck a pole.
A police official told the daily that the unfortunate incident happened late Wednesday night adding that the footballer died on the spot.
He said, “Fadeian Baloch was coming from ‘Do Darya’ towards Village in his Toyota Corolla car with his cousin Shahlyla Baloch. On the way, when they reached the turning near the Emaar building, he lost control and the car hit the footpath and then against a barrier.”
Baloch, who played as a striker in the national team, was from a family with a strong background. While her mother Rubina Irfan has been the chairperson of the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) Women’s Wing her father was a provincial minister.
She started playing football at the age of seven and grabbed the limelights after receiving the FIFA’s youngest players award. She also received the award for Pakistan’s best player on three occasions – 2009, 2011 and 2013.
One of the best players of Pakistan, Baloch represented Pakistan at the South Asian Football Federation Women Football Championship 2014 in Islamabad. She also achieved a big milestone in 2014 when she became the first Pakistani woman to score a hat-trick overseas during her stint in Maldives.
