Paul Scholes bashing Manchester United players on LIVE Television has become a norm these days. Scholes is a regular football pundit at BT Sports and seems to be taking out some sort of grudge against his former team mates.
This time, United’s central defender Phil Jones was the target for the former United central midfield player. Scholes is not convinced with Phil Jones’ ability to play at the heart of Man United’s defense.
Speaking with BT Sports, Scholes highlighted some of the weak areas of Jones’ defending and one of those is his inability to tackle with smart and intelligent forwards.
Scholes said: “I just think at centre back, when he is playing against clever forwards, he tends to get dragged out of position quite a easily.
“At right back you still need to be clever positionally, but I think he can use his pace and power and he hasn’t got a bad delivery either.
“When he first came to Manchester United he was a right back, he played right back all the time. He has got strength and power and he can get up and down the pitch.
“I just think at centre half, he is not quite clever enough to do it.”
Such harsh criticism is almost unfair on Phil Jones, who has developed as one of United’s finest central defenders in recent times. United are in the transfer market for a new central defender who can assure things at the back of Louis Van Gaal.
Players like Mats Hummels and Nicolas Otamendi have been constantly linked with a move to Old Trafford before the next season starts.
