King Pele who is coming to Kolkata after a span of 38 years will be bestowed with a special felicitation award on 12th October. The 74-year old Brazilian legend is scheduled to arrive in Kolkata on the late evening of 11th October. On the next day, he will be taken to Eden Gardens where he participated in a friendly match against Mohun Bagan Club for the first and last time in 1977. And at the Eden Gardens, Pele will be meeting with those Mohun Bagan footballers who played against him in the friendly match in 1977.
The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) will also felicitate Pele at the Eden Gardens and from there the Brazilian World Cupper is scheduled to go to Netaji Indoor Stadium to attend a video conference where he is supposed to reply questions from one of his fans from another planet, also a legend in his own world, Rafael Nadal. According to Athletico De Kolkata (ATK) top brass who are in charge of bringing the legendary Brazilian footballer to Kolkata, Nadal will be asking Pele a few questions in the video conference from his home at Madrid. Simultaneously, the sports personalities like Sourav Ganguly, sitting on the stage will also offer questions to Pele. On 13th, October Pele will be present at the Salt Lake Stadium to watch ATK’s first home match in the ISL against Kerala Blasters.
Sachin Tendulkar, one of the owners of the Kerala Blasters is also supposed to come to Kolkata to meet Pele on the occasion. But the organizers have not yet received any confirmation from him. On 14th morning, Pele will be leaving for New Delhi to attend Subrata Cup inter-school football championship final as the chief guest before he leaves for Brazil on 17th October.
On Tuesday ATK unveiled a special jersey on the occasion where Subrata Bhattacharya who was the captain of the friendly match Mohun Bagan and New York Cosmos in 1977, said that he wants to ask Pele a question that how Indian football will see the actual development.
