Is this player Liverpool’s next recruit from Southampton?
Liverpool impressive 4-2 victory over Crystal Palace in the Premier League at the weekend keeps them at the top of the Premier League table, level on points with Manchester City and Arsenal in the first two places this season.
This victory takes their unbeaten run to 11 games as Klopp has managed to build an extraordinary platform for his side to go on a challenge for the title this season.
The squad at the club looks close to one that can stop the league title drought at Anfield but there is a few place the manager can work on in the transfer windows and one such position is the full-back position in the squad.
Nathaniel Clyne has done exceptionally well on the right but he does not have a capable player of European pedigree to replace him in the first team when required. James Milner has been used as a make-shift left-back in place of Alberto Moreno who has been less than impressive for a couple of seasons now.
This lack of options has seen the manager scout for a number of full-backs recently and one such player who is now linked with a move to Liverpool is Southampton youngster Sam McQueen.
Liverpool currently has 4 first team players they bought from the St Marys and it looks like they are not done yet and are now pondering over a move for the 21-year old who has made a superb start to his career under Claude Puel this season.
Coming into the side due to injuries to key players, McQueen has done extremely well, sticking to his task and helping his side conjure some points in the last few games.
However, he is far from the first choice at the St Marys and it is understood that Klopp is impressed with his performances so far this season and is thinking about making a move at the end of the season.
McQueen has just 18 months left on his contract with Southampton and at his age, he will want to have as much game time as possible under his belt. So it is very much possible that he does not accept a contract extension and is ready to make the move at the end of the season.
Liverpool is not the only Premier League club interested in his signature as Champions Leicester City are also after the 21-year old.
Claudio Ranieri wants McQueen to replace 30-year old Christian Fuchs in the squad and it is understood that he has been monitoring his situation for some time now.
It will be interesting to see if Puel lets the youngster go but if he does, Liverpool certainly seem an exciting destination for McQueen. Do you think Liverpool will raid Southampton yet again next summer?
