Both Positive And Negative Injury Updates From Wenger Ahead Of West Ham Clash 1

Arsene Wenger says Olivier Giroud could be fit for Arsenal’s clash against West Ham on Saturday.

Arsenal suffered a 2-0 defeat to Southampton last night in the EFL Cup as they exited the competition at the quarter-final stage.

Lucas Perez led the line with Giroud not risked after recently suffering a slight groyne problem. giroud

Meanwhile, Santi Cazorla is continuing to recover from an Achilles injury that has plagued his season.

The Spaniard hasn’t featured since October 19 when Arsenal turned over Ludogorets 6-0 in the Champions League.

And while Arsene Wenger hopes Giroud will be available for their trip to the London Stadium, he admits it’s still a waiting game as far as Cazorla in concerned.santi-cazorla

He said: “Giroud is short, but has a chance to be available for Saturday.

“Cazorla I don’t know, honestly. It’s just inflammation. It can go in two days, two weeks – I don’t know.

“He has no setback, the inflammation is just still here. At the moment, it’s stable.”

There were concerns over Mohamed Elneny’s fitness last night too as the Egyptian was taken off shortly before half-time.

But Wenger put to bed any injury concerns, citing sickness as the reason for his early exit.mohamedelnenyarsenalvwestbromwichalbionlz1fobdyzeol

The Frenchman also said striker Yaya Sanogo remains sidelined with a long-term injury, but said he could not disclose details about what he called a “confidential” calf problem.

Sanogo has been out since the summer after going on loan last season, and has not made an Arsenal appearance since December 2014.

And Wenger said the 23-year-old French forward had to be shut down completely because of a complicated calf problem.

“He had a real medical problem that I cannot explain to you here, because it is a confidential problem,” Wenger said after Arsenal’s 2-0 loss to Southampton in the EFL Cup on Wednesday.

“Not a secret problem, but it is medical, I cannot speak about that. He has no life-threatening problem but he had a long-term injury, and I am not specialised enough to explain to you exactly what it is in his calf. But we had to rest him completely.”

Arsenal are also without forward Danny Welbeck, who is closing in on a return after a long-term knee injury. Wenger said Welbeck should be back in full training in December.

“He is not far,” the Arsenal boss said.
