North London outfit Arsenal faced Championship side Burnley in the FA Cup on Saturday afternoon, as both sides looked to proceed to the fifth round of the competition. The holders were looking to win their third consecutive title and were in good form this season. Arsene Wenger would have hoped for another win in this match, as his side looked confident this term and they once again started the game positively, despite the changes made to the the starting eleven. Calum Chambers gave the home side the lead in the 19th minute with a well taken finish from the right after some good consistent spells of attacking football.
However, the lead did not last too long as the Gunners could not once again hold on to a lead. Vokes was the goal scorer for the visitors on the 30th minute to make the score 1-1. As the two sides went into the break, either side had the chance to win it and the second 45 minutes would be decisive of that. After the restart, winger Alexis Sanchez added a second for his side in the 53rd minute to give his side the lead. Both sides tried their best to add more goals, though the chances went begging and there were no more goals scored in the game. It eventually ended in a 2-1 win for the holders, who advanced to the next round of the competition.
Here is what Wenger had to say after the match, as his side went through to the next round of the competition:
“When they came back to 1-1, it became a different game. They gained belief and we looked a bit shocked.”
Talking about the opening goal of the game and the unlikely scorer he said, “Calum Chambers is quite a good finisher in training.”
Adding a comment on new signing Elneny, he stated, “He became more adventurous. His mobility, his work rate was exceptional.”
On Francis Coquelin, he said, “Today he looked quite comfortable, with no problems.”
About Alexis Sanchez, “Physically, he is ready. He came back well.”
Further, about Serge Gnabry, he added, “Yes. I am tempted to let him go somewhere [on loan], do with him what I did with Coquelin.”
