North London giants Arsenal made the trip to Anfield on Wednesday for their clash against Liverpool, as they looked to extend their lead on top of the points table.
The fans were hoping that the game would be a close battle for all three points and they were surely not disappointed with what they got. The hosts took the lead in the 10th minute with Roberto Firmino putting one into the back of the net beating Petr Cech.
The Reds lead for briefly four minutes as Aaron Ramsey made it 1-1 with a good finish to put one past Simon Mignolet, who looked rather poor onthe night. The Brazilian made it 2-1 on the 19th minute, finishing off a superb goal with a curling right footed shot into the top right corner.
However the visitors were once again quick to recover as they equalized when Olivier Giroud’s deflection from a corner ended into the back of the net with Mignolet failing to deal with it on the 25th minute. The score remained at 2-2, as the two teams went into the break.
The second half saw Arsene Wenger’s side take the lead as the French striker added a third goal for his side, giving them a 3-2 lead on the 55th minute. the Gunners lead in the game for the first time and the two teams pushed for more goals, though there were really good chances that were not finished off.
Eventually, Joe Allen came on and scored towards the very end to end the game in a 3-3 draw and stealing a point for his side at home.
Here is what Arsene Wenger had to say in his post-match press conference:
“I am frustrated by the result and not disappointed by the performance.”
“We started a bit apprehensive in the first 20 minutes, a bit on the back foot and went 1-0 down, came back convincingly, went 2-1 down, showed character again, made it 2-2 and then 3-2.”
“The frustration comes from the fact that at 3-2 we had three situations where we should have made it 4-2 and made bad decisions.”
“The frustration then comes from conceding a goal in the last minute.”
“We have shown again great character to come back with a point.”
“We have to transform the frustration in the dressing room into even more motivation.”
“There are a lot of positives. What happened in this game should strengthen our belief.”
