Current league leadears Arsenal travel away to Anfield on Wednesday evening to face off against Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side, who are fighting for a place in Europe
for next season at the moment and are at eighth spot in the points table. Both sides will be keen on taking back all three points from the game at the Merseyside, as the
battle for places becomes intense with every passing game. The Reds have just lost one game in their last five matches in all competitions and will want to keep winning games.
On the other hand, the Gunners have four wins and a single loss in their last five matches in all tournaments that they have played in. Arsene Wenger’s side are
currently on top of the mountain and will want to claim the Premier League title this season and here is how the team is most likely to shape up in the clash against the
German manager’s side.
Six players are still out for the north London side including some first team stars, though one good for news for Wenger would be that Alexis Sanchez and Tomas Rosicky will be expected to be fit once again soon.
Formation: 4-2-3-1
Cech; Monreal, Koscielny, Mertesacker, Bellerin; Flamini, Oxlade Chamberlain, Ozil, Ramsey, Walcott; Giroud
Goal-keeper:
Petr Cech:
The summer singing for Wenger has made all the difference to the Arsenal side, as his presence has given them some much needed solidity at the back. The veteran
keeper has been really good between the sticks and will be once again expected to start in front of goal.
Defence:
Nacho Monreal:
The Spaniard was given a rest in the 3-1 win over Sunderland in the FA Cup and will look to make his return to the starting eleven, in the
game against Klopp’s side. Monreal has been solid on the left and will want to continue to put in similar performances till the end of the current campaign.
Laurent Koscielny:
The Frenchman has been really superb at the back for most of the current season, though it was his silly error that gave the Black Cats the lead at the weekend.
Per Mertesacker:
The German center-back was rested in the game at the Emirates and should once again start in this one, alongisde his partner Koscielny.
Hector Bellerin:
The former Barcelona man claimed a couple of assists in the absence of Ozil in the last game and was influential in his side’s victory. He has impressed Wenger at such a young age, who praised him in his
post match press conference and the manager will expect a similar performance from Bellerin in this match.
Midfield:
Mathieu Flamini:
Though Mikel Arteta has made his return to the squad, after recovering from his injury, it seems that the Frenchman who was rested on Saturday might start this game ahead of him and Calum Chambers.
Alex Oxlade Chamberlain:
The England international not only did his defensive duty as he was played alongisde Chambers, but made his presence felt in the Arsenal attacks as he looked to create goals playing some crucial passes from the holding midfield role, he was started
in. It seems he should once again start in a similar role after a superb performance with Ramsey being preferred on the wings, along with Walcott.
Mesut Ozil:
The star of the season for Arsenal with all those assists for his team-mates and definitely will start right in front of them once again. If Arsenal have to win some
silverware this season, the German World Cup winning superstar has to keep going the way that he has been so far.
Aaron Ramsey:
The Welshman was used as an impact substitute against the Black Cats, as he came on and scored minutes later, which should see him start in this game on the wings this time around rather than in a holding midfield position.
Theo Walcott:
Another attacker who did not score yet was part of most of the Arsenal attacks was Theo Walcott. Claiming an assist for the opening goal and adding more pace up front, he sould start on the opposite wing
once again.
Attack:
Olivier Giroud:
The French international will once again start as the lone striker, after scoring the third goal from Hector Bellerin’s superb pass in the previous game.
