Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) are already dealing with a tumultuous season, and a recent report could further lament on it. Their manager Christophe Galtier, has come under fire for allegedly making racist and Islamophobic remarks that were leaked to the public. It is being alleged that Galtier made such remarks during his time at his former club OGC Nice.

Journalists Romain Molina and Daniel Riolo revealed an email on Tuesday in which former OGC Nice director of football Julien Fournier made severe claims against the now PSG manager. Director Dave Brailsford of INEOS (the business that owns Nice) received the letter from Fournier. It exposes the racial and anti-Islamic slurs the PSG manager made while managing for Les Aiglons.

‘Couldn’t have so many blacks and Muslims’ – PSG manager Galtier’s alleged comments

Fournier detailed a conversation he had with Galtier in a letter to Brailsford. The former Nice director of football allegedly complained about the team’s disproportionate number of black and Muslim players, as observed by him. The email stated in part:

“He (Christophe Galtier) told me that I had to take into account the ‘reality of the city’ and that we couldn’t have so many blacks and Muslims in the team. He said to me ‘Last night, I went to the restaurant and everyone came down on me to say that we have a team of blacks’ then added ‘Julien, you must realise what city we are in; we’re in the city of (former mayor) Jacques Medecin. Our team does not reflect to what people want, just as it does not reflect myself’.”

The PSG manager is now receiving backlash on the social media as fans, irrespective of their favourite club are slamming the Ligue 1 winning coach. Fans are understandably shocked after learning about Galtier’s comments, as reactions flooded in:

When Christophe Galtier managed Nice in the 2021–22 season, Julien Fournier worked alongside him. After the conclusion of the campaign, both quit their respective positions. It should be noted that Qatar Sports Investments, based in Doha, owns PSG, which employs Galtier. Given that Qatar is a Muslim nation, the coach’s comments are not likely to be warmly received by the owners of Les Parisiens.
