Things aren’t really good at FC Barcelona and now behind the scenes discourse has come to limelight as the head coach, Quique Setien has hit back on Lionel Messi’s comments about the club not winning the UEFA Champions League.
Notably, Lionel Messi, the greatest FC Barcelona player of all-time and one of the greatest footballers of all time, had openly said that the club can not win the UEFA Champions League with the standard of football that they are currently playing. Although FC Barcelona is considered to be one of the best teams across Europe, they have been facing a drought as far as Champions League title is concerned.

Lionel Messi has been pretty vocal of his desire of lifting the Champions League trophy and also with his dissent from the club for not being able to do so.
Quique Setien Hits Back At Lionel Messi For His Champions League Comments
“Messi’s words I think have created a big debate,” Setien told beIN Sports.

“We are convinced that we can win the Champions League. We have to improve some things, but without a doubt, we are convinced that the team has the potential to win the Champions League. We can win it. We are convinced we can win the Champions League, of course, we can,” Quique Setien added.
There Has Been A Dearth Of Champions League Titles At FC Barcelona
The Catalans won the Champions League twice under Pep Guardiola in 2009 and 2011, but have only lifted the trophy once more since then. Their last Champions League victory came in the year 2015 when they beat Juventus by 3-1 in the final.

What irks Lionel Messi more is the fact that arch-rivals, Real Madrid, on the other hand, have won it four out of the last six seasons, including three successive years. Indeed, the Madrid club has won the European Cup a staggering 13 times, six times more than second-placed AC Milan, and eight times more than Barca.
