Raheem Sterling REVEALS how Brendan Rodgers FINISHED his Liverpool Career
Everybody knows the contract stand-off, the mud throwing and the agent, money fiasco of Raheem Sterling and Liverpool before Liverpool agreed to sell him for £49million to Manchester City. Now, Raheem Sterling is claiming that he would have travelled with Liverpool for their Pre-Season tour but one phone call from Brendan Rodgers ended his Liverpool career. He claims Brendan Rodgers is the reason he left Liverpool.
Sterling says he was driving to training on the morning of July 12 when manager Rodgers told him they had accepted a bid from Manchester City and his Liverpool career is over.
Daily Mail has reported that Sterling answered “Morning gaffer, Just on the way to training. Brendan Rodgers replied, “Okay, come into training but you’re not coming on tour; we’ve accepted a bid’’. Rodgers said in his pre-Tottenham presser, “He has been offered a wonderful deal, an incredible deal for a young player ‘’ – apparently, these words marked the end of Sterling’s Liverpool career, hints Sterling. Brendan Rodgers has always spoken well of Sterling in the press, but Sterling’s agent has always attacked Rodgers. Sterling then said, “When everything was going on and it was in the papers every day, everyone at Liverpool was top-notch’’ ‘’I spoke to the manager every day. I spoke to all the players. ‘&rsquo
“Everyone outside the club made it out as being something really bad, but there was no problem with the manager or the other players.
“The manager even invited me over to his house to talk. It wasn’t anything like as bad as people made out.”
His agent Aidy Ward launched an attack on Rodgers, he said half the Liverpool players didn’t rate Rodgers. Ward said- “I became the bad guy, that’s how I was portrayed. It started from the PR behind Liverpool. There is no issue with the fans there, they don’t know the full story, and there are lots of good people at Liverpool.
“I had no problem with (chief executive) Ian Ayre for example. I have no issue with anyone but Rodgers: he had a massive job with massive funds. ‘’
“How did he do? Good coach, but as a manager I didn’t like certain things about how he dealt with Raheem.
“Fifty percent of the players would probably tell you Brendan is not a good manager, but he is a good coach.'”
“I think for me it was like he was being told to be a good boy and sign a contract. In December I spoke to Liverpool and said we’ll sign a contract if there is a buy-out clause – those clauses are now common practice. They said no to that.
“Then there was an underhandedness, there were sly remarks. In press conferences, Brendan told everyone Raheem would sign – why do that? I knew, Brendan knew and Liverpool knew there was an issue. Right now he probably should be a Liverpool player, but he’s not and he’s in a great place at City.”
