The transfer fee is around €6 million euroes for the 28 year old goalkeeper.
Real Madrid tried very hard to bring 24 year old David De Gea to replace Iker Casillas at Santiago Bernabeu but the stubbornness of the Old Trafford management made them look for alternatives and they have signed the Spanish International.
Kiko is a young product of Real Madrid and he had featured for the C and B team of the Los Blancos before.
The 6 feet 3 inches goalkeeper joined Espanyol from Real Madrid in 2007 and after featuring one season for the Espanyol B team, he was promoted to the senior team at Estadi Cornellà-El Prat.
Kiko has featured for the Catalan side 115 times.
Kiko has appeared for Spanish National Team in one occasion and Catalonia National Team 5 times.
Kiko has been called by Vicente Del Bosque numerous times but he was the third choice and did not have a chance to play for the La Roja.
Espanyol was in a difficult financial condition and will be benefitted by the goalkeeper’s move.
The club has €130 million of debt and they need to pay €10 million to the Tax Office in the coming weeks.
Neither the exits of Felipe Mattioni, Sergio García or Diego Colotto (their exits in total will earn the club €4.5 million) nor the sales of Christian Stuani or Lucas Vázquez have allowed Espanyol to pay off what they need to.
Manchester United will be delighted with the news as they can keep David De Gea as of now but he may still join Real Madrid for free next season.
