Paris Saint-Germain starlet Kylian Mbappe has decided to join Real Madrid by 2024, according to the Spanish sports daily Diario AS. A free transfer of the French international to the Los Blancos last summer was widely anticipated. But, a dramatic turn of events led him to sign a two-year extension with the Parisians.

Kylian Mbappe chose to stay at PSG last summer, embarrassing Real Madrid, thanks to the intervention of French President Emmanuel Macron and other powerful individuals. The La Liga powerhouses were disappointed by the rejection, but their interest in the 24-year-old has not diminished. The team will try to sign the player if he departs Paris, according to a January report from The Athletic.

Real Madrid will only sign Kylian Mbappe on a free transfer

The aforementioned report from AS claims that Kylian Mbappe has decided to leave PSG. Furthermore, his intention to join Real Madrid as soon as possible has been communicated to the Los Blancos officials. However, the report adds, the Les Parisiens do not plan to approve Mbappe’s transfer this summer. Hence, Real Madrid will probably have to wait till his deal with the Ligue 1 powerhouse expires the following year.

Last summer, France president Macron and others were able to convince Mbappe to remain at the Parc des Princes, but that kind of persuasion is no longer effective. The 23-year-old is now committed to pursuing his ultimate and well-known dream of playing for the Spanish champions. PSG’s early Champions League exits in back-to-back season haven’t either made their case strong if they plan to offer Mbappe another contract extension.

Kylian Mbappe has made it obvious that he wants to wear the fabled white shirt of Real Madrid, but the Spanish club is staying away from talking about a prospective transfer. Real Madrid are apparently reluctant to deal for PSG’s all-time leading scorer until he becomes a free agent because their past attempts to lure him to a contract failed miserably.

The France World Cup winner reportedly has a clause in his contract that would permit him to depart for a price next summer due to the club’s lack of success in Europe, even though he signed a contract with PSG until 2025. According to AS, the player has already made up his mind and has booked a meeting with PSG at the end of the season to express his preferences.

Throughout his tenure at Parc des Princes, the Frenchman has established himself as one of the top players in the sport. In 250 games across competitions with the Parisians, Mbappe has amassed a record 202 goals and 96 assists. The striker, though, is disappointed that he has been unable to taste Champions League success in the French capital, which he’ll be hoping to with Real Madrid. Meanwhile, PSG can only win Ligue 1 this season after losses in the Cup de France and Champions League.
