ToggleAfter a defeat in their first pre-season match, Real Madrid has fought back well and defeated Juventus 3-1 in their second game. However, the transfer rumours regarding Luka Modric doesn’t seem to end.
Inter Milan were looking to negotiate with Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric.
However, Real Madrid manager Julen Lopetegui said these results do not carry much of significance. He also responded to the Luka Modric rumours.
In the post-match press conference, Loptegui said,
“We are content. The result is irrelevant in the pre-season. But we want to win not lose. Today there were some very positive things, but there are always things to improve. The team has taken steps forward against a top team.”
Modric has been linked to a shock move to Inter Milan, and he was their target after Barcelona hijacked the deal of Arturo Vidal. Real Madrid President, Florentino Perez ruled out the hopes of Milan saying the Italian side would have to pay his buyout clause, i.e. 750 million euros to sign him.
And after the statement of Loptegui on Sunday, Inter Milan have to move on finally.
“The President answered clearly, and I have nothing more to add to the situation. Modric is a decent footballer who we are waiting for with open arms. I talked to him after he lost the World Cup final. We are awaiting his return, and he will start working from the 8th, aiming to be back for the game on the 15th.”
The manager also believes Luka Modric will love to play under his tactics.
“Luka is a player that I am passionate about and I love. I think he’ll be pleased with what he’s going to get from me. He will be happy playing football at Real Madrid. Luka is a Real Madrid player, and I have no doubt that he will stay here. We have enjoyed it, and we will continue enjoying it without any doubt.”
Real Madrid’s first test of the season will be on 16th August when they will face Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup.
