With less a day to go for the 2018 summer transfer window to end, Real Madrid has finally made a move to buy a forward. According to the reports, Los Blancos are all set to sign their former striker, Mariano Diaz from Lyon.
Real Madrid looks to hijack the deal from Sevilla.
However, a few days ago, it was almost confirmed that Mariano is moving to Sevilla. But Real Madrid is keen to hijack the deal and activate the buy-back clause.
Mariano left Madrid for Lyon last year in a reported €8 million deal, and it included a buy-back clause as well. The striker made a phenomenal start in the Ligue 1, scoring 18 league goals in 2017-18 and that made Real Madrid interested again to buy back the star.
Meanwhile, Sevilla, who were also looking to buy Mariano has admitted they were set to land him, but will now miss out on the 25-year-old.
Sevilla president Jose Castro said,
“Real Madrid have a buy option they are going to exercise. But we still have no communication from the player, who has told us that he wanted to play with Sevilla again and again. He has the ability to say one thing or another. We negotiated with Lyon, and then they have 48 hours to decide. Real Madrid did it. Annoyed with Real Madrid? Not at all, this is football. We have to keep working.”
The president also revealed there is evidence in videos and audios that Mariano said he wants to play for Sevilla.
“We have done what we had to do, in good faith, with an agent and a player who tells us on videos and audios that he only wants to play in Sevilla.”
The reports have also emerged if Mariano goes back to Real Madrid, Borja Mayoral is likely to join Sevilla. La Liga’s transfer deadline is on Friday.
