Like Villarreal’s fans, club president Fernando Roig could not hide his indignation at the performance of referee Gil Manzano during Real Madrid’s 3-2 win over his side on Sunday.
Speaking to El Pelotazo on Cadena Cope, the Villarreal chief made a serious accusation of the trio of officials: “Gil Manzano and his assistants have left the stadium with Real Madrid bags. This is not good, it seems to me.”
But what was there in the Real Madrid branded bags that the match officials carried away from the Villareal game?
MARCA claim that in the bags were promotional products with no commercial value. They wrote “In the bags were just keyrings, pins and Real Madrid pens”.
The Yellow Submarine’s chief continued his rant. “I think tht after a penalty, which it was not, we cannot talk about a Real Madrid comeback. Everyone says the hand was from a rebound, but a rebound isn’t a penalty.”
Manzano saw differently and pointed to the spot in the 74th minute, with Cristiano Ronaldo netting.
It’s fair to say that the reaction from the media in Barcelona following Gil Manzano’s referring performance at the Estadio de la Ceramica is not favourable. The focus on the indignation is centred around the match officials decision to award Real Madrid with the controversial penalty kick.
