According to L’Equipe, Liverpool are in pole position to sign Newcastle midfielder Moussa Sissoko. The 25-year old French international has emerged as a top target for Brendan Rodgers.

Liverpool are in the market to sign a replacement for departed club legend Steven Gerrard and has been heavily linked with the likes of Miralem Pjanic, Yohan Cabaye and Mateo Kovacic in the recent weeks but French media claims that Sissoko is the top target in Rodgers’ wish list.

Sissoko has drawn interest from both Arsenal and Manchester United besides Liverpool and the Reds are keen to seal the deal quickly over their rivals. The Reds have been very efficient in this transfer window as they have looked to cover all the voids and weak areas in their squad.

Newcastle are reportedly looking to sign Dutch international and Manchester United target Greginio Wijnaldum as a replacement to Sissoko as the player recently said that he would like to play Champions League and would love to move to a bigger club if the right offer comes.

He said, “With only one year to go until the Euros, you can’t change your club and find yourself on the bench.

“At the same time though, I want to play for one of the biggest clubs and I would especially like to play in the Champions League, something I can’t do at Newcastle.

“One day or another my time will come, I do though see myself staying in England.”

The Reds have got all their top targets so far and with Sissoko emerging as their new target they might very well get him to Anfield next season.
