According to John Barnes, it is impossible for Jurgen Klopp to take Liverpool back to the level of their previous glory days. The Liverpool legend believes that for most of the clubs with the exception of Barcelona, golden eras, snatching back to back titles are no longer a dream to be dreamt of for the English clubs. He has indirectly praised Barcelona by mentioning them as one of the greatest clubs of this decade as they are quite capable of achieving the goal that English clubs can’t even dream about!
According to DailyStar, Barnes mentioned Jurgen Klopp in an interview with Omnisport, he told: “He’s not going to bring Liverpool back to the glory days in terms of winning the league every year and winning the European Cup. Because that’s not going to happen anywhere, apart from if you’re Barcelona. In England, you are going to see a change of maybe Leicester winning this year or maybe even Tottenham. But I don’t think you’re going to have one team dominating like Liverpool did in the 70s and 80s, and as Manchester United did in the 90s, or how Arsenal did for a while,”
“You are going to have a change in who wins the league every year, which is good competition.”
It is not that the former winger is being arrogant, neither does he have any grudges against the current Liverpool boss, he is just being logical. In today’s market situation and with all the top clubs with huge money, quality players, a vast network of scouts and talented youths, the English Premier League is very tough and thus considered as the best football league by many pundits of football. John Barnes won five major trophies for Liverpool during his time at the Anfield but since then the club have not won the league.
