Arsenal have announced their line up for their openisg friendly fixture of the season against Singapore Select XI.

Petr Cech is made to wait for his Arsenal debut, while youngsters Chuba Akpom and Alex Iwobi start in attack. Per Mertesacker captains the side.

Wenger is looking confident in his players’ fitness levels. He has only named six substitutes – one of which is goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny – so five outfielders will be forced to play the full 90 minutes in temperatures still over 30 degrees and 70 per cent humidity. Will be a tough start to pre-season for those five.

Arsenal previously named 27 man squad for the pre season with key absentees in form of Alexis Sanchez, Danny Welbeck, David Ospina and Tomas Rosicky.

The squad is:

Chuba Akpom, Mikel Arteta, Hector Bellerin, Santi Cazorla, Petr Cech, Calum Chambers, Francis Coquelin, Dan Crowley, Mathieu Debuchy, Mathieu Flamini, Gabriel, Kieran Gibbs, Olivier Giroud, Alex Iwobi,Laurent Koscielny, Emiliano Martinez, Per Mertesacker, Nacho Monreal, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Mesut Ozil, Aaron Ramsey, Jeff Reine-Adelaide, Wojciech Szczesny, Theo Walcott, Chris Willock, Jack Wilshere, Gedion Zelalem.
